Supreme court decision on importation of CPC – India

Under the Supreme Court’s ruling, India’s calcining industry will be permitted to import up to 1.4 million metric tons of GPC annually; the ruling also permits India’s aluminum industry to use up to 500,000 tons of imported CPC per year.

“Import of Petcoke is allowed for only cement, lime kiln, calcium carbide and gasification industries, when used as the feedstock or in the manufacturing process on actual user condition,” the DGFT (directorate general of foreign trade) said.

India is the world’s largest consumer of petcoke, India imports over half its annual petcoke consumption of about 27 million tonnes, mainly from the United States. Some amount of high sulfur CPC from China for anode making in aluminium plants.
